The Hill — The U.S. will see a major tax increase on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, with the top two console manufacturers in the United States set to face significant tax hikes this year.
According to a memo obtained by The Hill, the new tax is set to take effect in the U.K. and Canada later this year and would be the largest in the history of the tax code.
It would apply to the Xbox and PS3, as well as to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The Hill notes that the U,K.
already imposes a tax on Xbox consoles, but it is set for an end of March, and in Canada, it is due to end in July.
Both U.k. and Canadian tax authorities will be investigating Xbox and Sony consoles.
The IRS did not immediately respond to The Hill’s request for comment.
